Oh, my friends, for those that still have a Father who is alive…especially if he is gregarious, loving, caring, giving, selfless and witty; please show him your love!
I miss my Dad all year long, but when Father’s Day approaches, my heart aches for the sweet relationship we had. He was always there for me, no matter what in the world was going on.
It was six years ago this month that I gave my Dad a tattoo for Father’s Day. I had just returned from living out west for two years and offered up the idea to him, as we hung out in his den watching the Detroit Tigers. Upon some contemplation, he agreed to my idea and said, ” The only thing I will get tattooed on my body is the Detroit Tiger D!”
After receiving the approval of his family physician, we scheduled the appointment, and basically had a party at the tattoo parlor.
This man, who I adored all my life has been gone now for 3 1/2 years. I miss his voice, his witty remarks, his company, advise and support. Love and loss are all part of our existence, here on this rotating planet. We grow older, stronger, self reliant and bold. I am highly motivated to keep his loving energy and selfless giving alive in my life, both with my family and creative projects.
Below you will find a tiny glimpse of my Dad and I, including two note pad designs that I gave him later that same summer for his birthday.
