The pencil drawing you see here is a gift that I made for my grandson Abraham’s 2nd birthday this past March. The great horned owl is our example today of the process I take to bring the artwork to your desk! Dancing Frog Press (yeah that’s me!) utilizes the original artwork to make handy, useful note pads, for every day use.
After scanning the original at a high resolution, I make minor adjustments to the contrast, levels and crop if necessary in Photoshop. The image is then placed into InDesign and laid out accordingly to send to the printer.
This is how the layout appears for the printer…
I carefully select which fine quality paper I will use for this particular design. I take the paper stock to Bridget at Copy Central in Traverse City, where she does a test print as a proof. After my approval, she takes it from there to produce the copies needed, then her guy cuts and pads them with a piece of chipboard as backing.
Another trip into Traverse City is required to pick up the finished note pads.
I stamp the back of each note pad with the Dancing Frog Press logo and further handwrite the title of the pad in the space provided.
Each note pad is placed into a clear sleeve to protect it. Abraham’s owl note pad is now ready to be marketed!
The shopping cart is soon to be added, but in the mean time, hop over to the connect page and let me know if I can send you one of these useful note pads!
