I find simple pleasure in making homemade paper…kind of like being in my favorite junior high art class…
I start with scraps of paper and add them to the blender. This is a nice way to re-purpose some of the lovely paper stock that I use for my products.
Next I add hot water and allow it to soak for awhile, to soften up the paper.
This is where the paper become a slurry…turn on the blender baby and make it happen!
I enjoy adding a dried autumn leaf which gives the finished sheets texture and color.
I pour the slurry unto the screen that is placed over the kitchen sink. I form it into approximate sizes for the anticipated finished product.
Next, I press out most of the water with a small towel.
The little squares will dry in approximate 6 to 24 hours depending on the conditions. It is nice to place the screen out in the sun on the back deck when I can!
After throughly drying, I place the homemade paper in between heavy books to flatten.
Each piece of homemade paper becomes one-of-a-kind framed art when finished with natures autumn leaves!
