It is rather uncanny how the mild shift into autumn happens so quickly here in northern Michigan. Cooler nights, interesting cloud formations, wild winds roaring across Lake Michigan and shorter days all give us the clear announcement that autumn is approaching. For many of us that live here year round, we prepare for the winter and lovingly embrace all of the seasons for their beauty.
I found several red maple leaves on a hike a few days ago. I enjoy collecting the colorful leaves and later turn them into gifts…I blend up a batch of homemade paper and then arrange the leaves which get placed into wood frames. They are quite stunning and have been one of my favorite ways to give through the years.
As most of you know, my note pads were originally created to give to teachers each year at the holidays. Therefore, when this time of year arrives, I become nostalgic for school supplies, open houses, crayons and playgrounds. For the past decade, I have missed the activities that are associated with the beginning of the school year. However, this year brings a welcome change…my grandson Abraham starts school at Suttons Bay Montessori in about a week. This allowed me the opportunity to attend his school’s ice cream social a few days ago. I am very fortunate to live along side my beautiful daughter & family… intentional multi-generational lifestyle.
